On Saturday 27
th April, craft stores across the UK and in Ireland will be celebrating Yarn Shop Day, when outlets nationwide will be hosting special events, giving away goodie bags, offering big discounts and providing exclusive free patterns to customers – along with plenty of tea and cake! Did someone say cake?
Yarn Shop Day was launched in 2014 by Let's Knit and Let's Get Crafting, and last year over 200 bricks-and-mortar stores took part. For some stores the High Street is a tough place to be, so we like to show them a little love - it is one of the highlights of our year and we love to get out to our local stores.
Stylecraft is a member of the UK Hand Knitting Association and so we are very proud to sponsor the event, providing goodie bags for yarn shops to win and promoting the event across our social media platforms.
We thought we would ask what Yarn Shop Day means to you.
I went to Yarn Shop Day at Threads Wool Shop in Dumbarton. Lovely people, lovely selection of wool, inspirational designer who makes amazing things and is fantastic with colours. The owner, Linda and daughter Lorna always ensure a great day and it's always busy. Can't wait for it this year
I think it's very important to support local yarn shops all through the year But Yarn Shop Day is a good and fun way to remind people. If I'm in a town away from home for any reason, I will always seek out a yarn shop if it has one.
My LYS is a great little shop the owners are always friendly and helpful, their clubs are a great place to meet people who do the same thing as you and there is always a new technique to learn
Yarn shop day . Why have I never heard of this? Sounds like a lavish day of shopping for something different be it a project, yarn or tools. All I know is I need to find an event near me.....any excuse
And now over to some yarn shop owners
This is the first year we are taking part in Yarn Shop Day at Linda's Wool n Yarn, Wisbech. We feel that it's a fantastic opportunity to celebrate your local wool shop.
Come along for Yarn shop day at Woolwise in Kidderminster and support your local wool shop. Learn to crochet and knit if you have not tried it, we will get you interested always here with help and advice having fun.
The Wee Crafty Owl in Greenock will be raising funds for the local hospice by having a coffee morning and wool related raffles. All welcome! The shop has only been open a week so this will be a great way to let everyone know we're open.
At The Lost Sheep Wool Shop in Great Yarmouth we feel Yarn Shop Day is a very important part of our year. We get to showcase our shop promote new yarns, and designs and have fun playing with yarn in creative crafty workshops. It's all about bringing people together, enjoying, sharing and celebrating everything woolly and supporting the local yarn shop, oh and drinking lots of tea and eating lots of cake.
See, we told you there was cake.
So wherever you find yourself on Saturday 27
