Wee Woolly Wonderfuls

Have you come across Wee Woolly Wonderfuls, the super-cute amigurumi animal kits created by Lisa Dobbs? They have been a massive hit, having been voted as one of the Top Ten Craft Kits for adults in The Independent. We are super-excited to let you know that we are now able to bring these gorgeous patterns to a Stylecraft stockist near you.
We had a chat with Lisa to find out more about her successful brand. “When I was pregnant with my son, I kept seeing adorable crochet toys I wanted to make for him, and I struggled so much to learn! I thought there must be an easier way to learn to crochet,” Lisa explains. “I thought how amazing it would be able to buy a kit with everything that you need included, or a beginner pattern, which had step by step video tutorials, so that learning was made easy. It started there and has taken off over the last 5 years - I now even have my husband working for me full time now, and my 10-year-old son occasionally in the school holidays - so it's a real family business!”
Lisa loved crafting as a child, and her mum taught her to knit as a young girl. “I also taught myself to sew and used to make toys for my mum to sell to her friends at work to earn myself some pocket money. I remember making penguins from fur fabric, and also sewing ragdolls and making them dresses.” She found crafting so relaxing and loved the whole process of making things giving her a real sense of achievement.
She wanted to make toys for her son and loved that whenever a friend or family member had a baby due, they always asked for a handmade toy for the baby. Lisa dabbled with designing other things such as blankets and clothes, but none of them bring her the joy that designing toys does.
How does Lisa come up with her gorgeous creations? “I have so many ideas of characters I want to create and designing them is my absolute favourite part of Wee Woolly Wonderfuls. I have my own style, and often can make them exactly as I want from just the idea I have in mind. I tend not to draw them first as I'm absolutely hopeless at drawing! But when it comes to being able to create them using wool and the ideas I have in my head - I find it comes naturally!”
Wee Woolly Wonderfuls has a celebrity fan that we were interested to hear about. “Stacey Solomon is a huge fan of our kits, and when she did several Instagram stories about her making our Bunnies for her new baby - everyone went crazy for them!”
“Stylecraft is my absolute favourite brand to work with when designing patterns, almost all of our designs are made using Stylecraft, so when I was approached about them distributing our patterns - it was a no brainer! I love that our patterns will be in lots of small businesses all over the country - and now even more people can enjoy creating Wee Woollies,” she told us.
